Most of the drywall will reveal empty space underneath it though. Slide vinyl soffit out like a puzzle piece. Locate the end of the bad soffit board and pry away the entire strip. Remove the screws holding the soffit panels to the underside of the roof.

Typically the panels are not secured. Remove the molding and fascia to gain access to the soffit. Take caution to avoid those spaces you marked as untouchable. Instead the soffit fits in between two channels like a puzzle piece.

Removing vinyl soffits for replacement or repairs requires a helper to hold the ladder while you work.
